Equipment Management - Maintenance & Reliability
Providing tools and equipment in a timely manner is only part of an effective equipment management program. The items provided must be in excellent working condition, with all safety features intact and necessary certifications completed.
All tools and equipment are cycled through the equipment management facility at the completion of each project. This allows them to be processed through an inspection, calibration, certification and repair program unique to each item. The extensive nature of the inspections can be illustrated with a few examples:
- Every foot of extension cord and weld cable is visually inspected for abrasions and cuts.
- All chainfalls are load tested, certified for weight capacity, and opened to allow visual inspection of the braking system.
- All torches are tested for leaks.
- All crane functions are performance tested and all systems are inspected. Particular attention is paid to all safety systems including LMI's and two block alarms.
- Laser and pump alignment equipment is reviewed and certified for accuracy.
- Instrumentation equipment is calibrated and certified.
Cherne employs factory trained repair personnel and maintains documented repair procedures for most of the items in its inventory and outsources with specialized local repair companies for the others. Equipment management personnel include certified state and federal DOT inspectors and certified crane inspectors.
