Cherne was awarded the construction and construction management contracts for this project after successful completion of the Hydrocracker and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Projects at this same refinery location. The S Zorb unit is designed to reduce sulfur levels in gasoline fuel.

The contract scope included the following work which was self-performed by Cherne:
|
- Civil, Foundations
- Equipment Erection
- Piping
|
- Instrumentation
- Electrical
- Insulation

Cherne performed the following work on a subcontract basis:
|
- Sheet Piling
- Rebar Installation

This construction project required erection of a new 150 foot tall structure within an existing refinery unit. Our work started with a constructability phase and then the management of pre-construction activities, which included building large sections of the tower structure complete with steel, piping, electrical and instrumentation in place. This phase required close collaboration with the engineer in order to ensure that material deliveries and engineering information were received in time to support completion of these “fully loaded” tower sections. From that point, Cherne's detailed planning and execution facilitated installation of the new construction into the existing unit, resulting in a successful project, which met all client expectations and quality standards, and was accomplished safely and on time.
