WOOD RIVER COKER AND REFINERY EXPANSION
Cherne completed the Wood River Coker and Refinery Expansion (CORE) project for the client to capitalize on the availability of heavy Canadian crude oil in the nearby Keystone Pipeline. The project increased total crude throughput, doubled heavy crude processing capabilities, heightened coking capacity and improved clean product yield by 5 percent.
Cherne assisted in the demolition and replacement of several systems within the operating facility as well as completed major and minor revamps, unit restarts, new grassroot units, upgrades to utilities, other infrastructure and new off-site facilities. Major equipment included catalytic cracking units, diesel units, a distillation unit, a hydrocracking unit and a hydrogen plant.
The project team worked 1 million hours without a lost-time injury.
